This simple cake recipe was sent home from our kids' school. This is the easiest, best tasting cake I've ever made. Great to make with kids, especially for cupcakes. Top this delicious cake with your favorite frosting.

- Ingredients
- Original recipe (1X) yields 12 servings.
- 1 cup white sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¾ teaspoon baking powder
- Half a cup of milk
Instructions
Gather all the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square cake pan.
Cream sugar and butter together in a mixing bowl. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating briefly after each addition. Mix in the vanilla.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Add to the wet ingredients and mix well. Add milk and stir until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
Bake in the preheated oven until the top springs back when lightly touched, 30 to 40 minutes.
Remove from the oven and cool completely. Chill and enjoy!
Recipe tip
A 10-inch round pan will produce similar results. To make the cupcakes, line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared muffin cups and bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
